The horizontal mattress suture is a variant of the single interrupted suture. This technique is most often used to allow eversion of the edges of the wound. The horizontal mattress suture helps minimize the risk of tearing and allows for stronger traction on the flap. It is therefore an ideal suture to master among other techniques!
To enrich your suturing techniques, we invite you to watch a video on the horizontal mattress suture, presented by Dr. Thomas T. Nguyen, professor of Periodontology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
